L'8 marzo 2012 è stato annunciato che la settima stagione di Skins sarà quella conclusiva della serie. La E4 ha infatti commissionato per il 2013 sei episodi speciali, suddivisi in tre filoni: Skins Fire, Skins Rise e Skins Pure, che si focalizzeranno rispettivamente su uno dei tre personaggi principali di questa stagione, come uso consueto dello show. Il 16 ottobre 2012 è stato infatti anticipato dal sito del quotidiano britannico The Sun che faranno ritorno Kaya Scodelario nel ruolo di Effy, Jack O'Connell nel ruolo di Cook e Hannah Murray nel ruolo di Cassie, mentre Lily Loveless e Kathryn Prescott appariranno come non protagoniste. I problemi adolescenziali lasceranno il posto a tutto ciò che riguarda l'inizio dell'età adulta. Inoltre, se questa stagione dovesse riportare buoni ascolti, non è escluso che verranno prodotte altre stagioni in futuro, probabilmente su una rete diversa da E4.
Le riprese sono iniziate il 22 ottobre 2012 e si sono concluse nel gennaio 2013. Il primo trailer è stato rilasciato il 3 giugno 2013. La messa in onda britannica è iniziata il 1º luglio 2013.
